Co. Sligo

A group of Kellys had their roots in the parish of Templeboy in Co. Sligo. This family was called McKelly. They were hemmed in on all sides, initially by their more powerful gaelic neighbours, and later by the Anglo-Normans, thus they did not expand numerically. They later dropped the prefix Mc, and became Kellys.
